2018 US Open Officials Application

If you are at least 18 years old; and you hold a rank of black belt or black sash or instructor, or have otherwise been qualified by a recognized sport martial arts association as an official, we invite you to apply to be a US Open Official.

If you have officiated before at the US Open anytime after 2008, you may fill out the form below to apply to officiate next edition.US Open Officials are placed into one of three classes: A, AA, or AAA. Tournament Directors Murray Lamb and Mike Smith and Officials Director Livan Concepcion make a decision where you will be classed for the next edition of the US Open, based on length of time and performance in your current class if you are a returning US Open Official; or your experience level with major ISKA and NASKA-style events if this is your first US Open.

You will be contacted by email either way, whether your application is accepted or not. If accepted, your email will include a link to the rules and ring layouts being used, and information on your class, meeting times, judging schedule, and compensation.

  • I am a black belt or black sash or instructor level in my style and/or organization; or I have been qualified by a sports karate association or regulatory body that conducts and/or regulates tournaments similar to ISKA/NASKA events like the US Open ISKA World Martial Arts Championships.

    I have familiarized myself with the rules, regulations and protocol to be used at the next edition of the US Open ISKA World Martial Arts Championships, or I attest that I will do so before I arrive at the event. I agree to be bound by these protocols. I agree to attend all meetings and be present at all requested times; or if I must miss a scheduled time, to seek a waiver in advance from a US Open Officials Team staff member.

    I understand I may receive compensation for my officiating duets at the US Open, and I agree I will be responsible for claiming said compensation as income and the payment of any taxes due; and that the US Open will not withhold any funds from my compensation for these purposes.

    I attest that I am at least 18 years of age; that I have never been hospitalized for a mental disorder; and that I am not currently on felony probation or a misdemeanor probation that involves violence or a sexual offense of any kind, in any jurisdiction. I further attest that I am not required to register as a sex offender or sexual predator, nor have I ever been convicted of a sexual offense of any kind, or an offense of violence toward a minor, in any jurisdiction in or outside of the United States.
